Happy Cinco de Mayo

Yes, I've finally returned. I apologize for all the non-posts and breaks during the past 6 months or so, but it was due to my zany schedule. But, things should be more normal now.

Today is Cinco de Mayo, but I wasn't able to find any relevant songs that tied in to that. So, I'll just repost something that at the time had a working link but not any longer.

The song I talked about originally can be looked at here. They re-did their page and now you can't find it there. So, you'll have to look here to get the tune, along with quite a few other older mashups from a few years ago (that song in question is near the bottom). Enjoy. It's a great song for a night like tonight, where you may want to go out and enjoy it being an unofficial national Mexican holiday, no matter your race, creed or color. But, don't drive drunk, whatever you do.

A Brief Sabbatical

Unfortunately, the excu.. er I mean reason why this is going up at this time is because of Internet problems. Yes, I just had them this past November and I thought I'd be done with them for months, but I was mistaken. But, it's working fine now. Problem is, for the rest of the month I will just not have the time to do this, so the next time I'll post a song here will be on Monday evening, May 4th. By then things will calm down for me and be much less hectic, I promise.

Too Hot To Give It Up

Once again I'll tie something from my other music page over to here. If you look there now you'll see a post concerning Marvin Gaye; a big deal has been made over the anniversaries of both his death and his birth being earlier this month. I uploaded the song Got To Give It Up and figured it would be most logical to point out a mashup involving that tune here.

Once again I'll mention DJ Riko, who I mentioned last year for his Superchunk mix. If you look here, you can scroll down and find the mashup he did involving Gaye's song where you hear his vocal over the music of a song by UFO, which is a band that you never hear on the radio but from the songs I've heard from them, they're cool with me. It's more rocking than the original Gaye tune, but it doesn't make it any worse. In fact, it goes together very well.

Catching Up Is Hard To Do

I'll direct you here for an explanation as to where I've been the past few days. Basically, I've felt too crappy to do this until just now. Damn McDonalds food!

Anyway, I'll just quickly mention a link that I've brought up before, but in case you haven't bookmarked it yet or whatever, Popbytes's mashup of the week page-located here-is a nice source for quality songs on a weekly basis. I especially enjoy the latest song posted on there, a rather unique take on Kung Fu Fighting.

I'll be back this Friday, and as my schedule is clear for that day... at least I hope that I'll be more on time.

Catching Up

All I've got to say is that my March has been completely manic, which is why I haven't been able to keep up with my self-imposed timetables. But, my April will be more normal. It's just that now I'll do a short blurb here and then the next time I'll be more lengthy.

For this, I'll do something different. I decided to search "mashups" on Google News and I found some interesting stuff.

The highlight was this article, about an Israeli who spent a lot of time taking unrelated music clips and combining them into 7 videos; you'd have no idea that they're separate music clips that were mashed together, it was done so well. All the videos are here. He did a great job there.

Then, there's this article, which talks about an up and coming mashup artist who has an online album. I haven't heard it yet except for the one YouTube video, but it sounds good to me.

I'll be back this Friday, and this time I'll be more punctual due to my April being less zany.

I'll Be Back Wednesday Night

Unfortunately, I had a zany weekend which included an incident that I'll mention below, so you'll have to wait until Wednesday night, as the next 48 hours for me, I'll be swamped with a variety of things. To copy and paste (and note that this was written while I was intoxicated at the time):

I had quite the bizarre night tonight. I went to a wrestling show in Orlando and then to you know where (yes, that one nightclub) afterwords. The show was entertaining and my time at Mako's was rather odd, but independent of that, my night was strange due to the fact that at the wrestling show, a famous actress/singer (famous enough that she recently won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar!) was there and I saw her there but I did not know who she was until after I got home.

The show I went to was Florida Championship Wrestling, which is like the minor leagues to World Wrestling Entertainment. They usually have shows around their home base of Tampa, but tonight they had a show in Orlando. Anyway, one of the wrestlers there has the real name of Dave Otunga. He was on the VH1 reality show I Love New York 2 (at least from what I hear; I never watch those shows). I don't know what his wrestling name was as the sound system there wasn't the best, so I wasn't able to catch it, but he indeed is a wrestler in FCW and he wrestled in a match on this show. In case you don't know, Mr. Otunga happens to be engaged to a name that all of you should know. In fact, I saw that lady walking around during the show, but I did not recognize her as a celebrity, but believe me, she is.

Once I got home after the wrestling show (and my time at the happiest nightclub on Earth) I was looking at the local wrestling messageboards, which talk about shows such as Florida Championship Wrestling. There was a thread on one of the boards, and a guy who I don't get along with (don't ask) started a thread where he bragged about meeting that girl and he had photographic evidence of that meeting. Once I saw the photo and made sure that it was her (and yeah, it was who he said it was), I put it together, and I feel like a total jackass now.

Folks, tonight at the wrestling show I went to, JENNFIER HUDSON (yes, the American Idol contestant from 2004 who went on to win a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Dreamgirls, not to mention the success she has had in the music field) was there, and I saw her walking around, but I did not know at the time who she was, thus I was not able to take a picture of her to post online and brag about me hobnobbing with a celebrity.

EPIC FAIL on my part.

From what I understand, she doesn't usually show up at the wrestling matches of her fiancee Dave Otunga, so it was a special night for that couple. I'll probably forever shake my head and regret being such a boob and not realizing that I had an opportunity to hob-nob with such a famous person. Oh well, though.

Another Random Links Post

Unfortunately, look at the time, and note that among other things, tonight I had to listen to part of ISU’s mens basketball postseason game online (from a Kansas radio station), where they lost to Kansas State in OT in the first round. It doesn’t mean they didn’t have a fabulous season, though.

Up now at Bootie Blog is a post where DJ's Adrian & The Mysterious D returned to China, and the resultant photos. I'd love to visit that country one of these days, but I'll keep on dreaming and maybe it'll happen sometime in the future. Below that is their monthly list of the best mashups from the preceding month.

Popping And Locking

On my other page, I have a new entry up devoted to a pair of electro tunes. It's natural then that I talk about a pair of mashups here which involve songs from that genre.

The first one is known as Me Against The Rockit and it's found at this popbytes page. To clarify, the song is from Jimmi Jammes, a DJ that's still around doing mashups for a few years now. He's a familiar name to me, in other words. That mashup is a miracle in that it made me care about a Britney song that was made after 2001! Since that year, pretty much every song I've heard from her has been crap-ola, when to be honest, before that some of the tunes were perfectly fine pop.

The second tune is from a pair of DJ's that I've mentioned more than once before here, but this tune is absolutely germane to this discussion, so they'll be brought up again. I'm referring to DJs Adrian & The Mysterious D, whose song Don't Stop Believin' in Planet Rock can be found on their website here. Journey plus Afrika Bambaataa may sound strange, but hey, it works great if you haven't had the opportunity to check it out yet.

So, with those two tunes you can tag some graffiti on the nearest brick wall before putting on your fingertip-less gloves and adadas tracksuit as you do the backslide and the spin around with the other b-boys and b-girls out there.

I Love... Mashups

I really do apologize for being gone from this page for so long with no explanation, but things for me as of late have been nutrageous and it’s enough just for me to do my other blog.

Anyhow, I'll mention two quick things. First, the Good Blimey page I've mentioned a few times in the past which has a massive playlist of mashups to listen to (and even download) is still operative. In case you don't know the address, it's here.

The second thing is a DJ I've mentioned before, but I'll bring him up again as hey, as of late I've been really digging one song from him. It's DJ Mei-Lwun, the Asian DJ I talked about here. The song I'm talking about this time is I Love 50, his simple yet effective combination of 50 Cent and Joan Jett. While the song may be a little long, I really have no complaints about it. Note that Mei-Lwun says this was the first mashup he ever did; it's an impressive feat, given that the tune is pretty great. Thankfully he's still in this game and making quality mashups.
