An Important Announcement

As you can tell from recent history, it became harder and harder for me to do this, so I decided to change things around and I'll stop updating this blog. I won't take this down, though; I'll keep it up for perpetuity for people to look at and download stuff at anytime. My new movie blog is here, so please check that out.

Who Doesn't Love This Song?

If you’re wondering why I’m posting this now when I said that I was going to be on my trip, it got bumped from me leaving yesterday to me leaving this Sunday; don’t ask for the full story, but complications happened which prevented me from leaving when I was scheduled to; in hindsight the new days I’m gone may work out better for me anyhow. I’ll keep it short and sweet.

While I was looking for songs to put on a burned CD or two for my trip up north, I stumbled upon a mashup from DJ Erb. At his downloads page, you can spend either 50 cents on a particular tune or you can just download the free ones available.

The song in particular I'm pointing out is his mashup of one of the greatest songs of all time, Radar Love (who doesn't love that tune?) featuring vocals from two of the most popular rappers that appear in mashes, the Beastie Boys and Ludacris. It's good stuff and I think that more mashes need to be done with Golden Earring's classic song.

As my trip starts on the 2nd I'll be taking much of this month off. My next post here won't be until the weekend of August 22nd.

Steve Harris Is A Believer

I know, a day late, a dollar short, and all that. I'll do one last post by the 28th of July before I leave for my Illinois trip.

I got a tip on a new song from a local wrestling messageboard, of all things. A big fan of Iron Maiden made a post which was of a YouTube video of a new mashup involving that band and... The Monkees!

It's from a DJ I've talked about before, DJ Schmolli. You can download the song at his blog here. Hearing Bruce Dickinson singing over the oldies standard is quite surreal, yet great at the same time.

A Trio of Interesting Albums

As I'm exhausted tonight I'll keep it pretty brief. Right now at Mashuptown is a trio of albums that, while I haven't really listened to any of them yet, all sound intriguing.

ToTom doing an entire album of Bob Dylan mashups is certainly unique and it's a great idea.

DJ Zebra doing an entire album based on Woodstock is also a great idea, as hey next month is the 40th anniversary of that wonderful weekend, if you can believe it.

Finally, an entire album based on electro songs done by a variety of DJ's... thumbs up from me.

Check Back Here This Upcoming Weekend

Unfortunately yet another calamity happened to me this past weekend; remember how I got a cheap computer around Thanksgiving due to problems with the old one and how it would be a temporary fix until the summer when a new one could be bought? Well, the 4th of July the cheap computer crashed and as it was a holiday I had to wait until Sunday to get a new one; I got a Hewlett-Packard and that should be better than the cheap one. But, that screwed up my schedule and thus I'll have to post something new this upcoming weekend.

I'll keep it brief again here. While I'm not too familiar with most of the tunes presented at this Mashuptown link, it's 23 songs that are either mashups or remixes, so that should satisfy your desire for tunes from him. The comments sections has links to some other sites that will provide tunes, so that's something you should look at too.

Remembering Michael Jackson, Part 1

Well, I certainly wasn’t planning on doing another one of these so soon but of course with the big news that broke early yesterday evening for me, it’s something that I feel I have to do. Now, without taking into account how he was in real life-and it’s obvious that whether or not you believe those charges against him (I probably should look more into those cases before deciding one way or another, but I’ve heard that those accusers and their families were less than credible, so who knows what the truth actually is), he had obvious mental problems-you have to say that he made some incredible music. I have no idea whether or not those child molestation charges were true but either way it’s sad that he had an abusive father and ended up being messed up in the head from spending most of his life being a celebrity; as it’s been proven MANY times before, being a celebrity, especially these days with those awful cockroaches known as the paparazzi, seems like it’s not even worth it as it’s caused many casualties and people dying way too young with all the press and attention forcing people to do-as Michael did-to turn to drugs and alcohol and that along with whatever mental illnesses he always had, and it’s unfortunate that someone who was so talented and made some great music in the 70’s and 80’s lost his mind, allegedly did some horrific things, and even without that, just acted *strange* and his music career wasn’t the same. I don’t know if I can faithfully say “RIP” to him for obvious reasons but I’m still shocked that one of the most important figures in music history passed away unexpectedly.

Between that, Farrah Fawcett passing away on the same day after having to fight cancer for the past few years, Ed McMahon a few days prior, David Carradine dying and the way that happened, the death of Japanese wrestling legend Mitsuharu Misawa (a big deal to me) and the fake rumors yesterday about both Jeff Goldblum *and* Harrison Ford passing away, and it’s been quite the unfortunate month.

So, today through Sunday I will point out some mashups that involve him; of course, due to the number of great pop/R&B songs he created, there hasn't been a lack of great tunes involving his music.

Tonight I'll point out two tunes that I enjoy a whole lot. The first one is from DJ Party Ben. At this link you can hear Promiscuous With You, which is a combo of MJ's Rock With You and Nelly Furtado/Timbaland's Promiscuous Girl; it was quite the feat in that I don't really care for the latter but combining it with that Jackson song made it pretty great.

The second tune is Saysayism Allstar Jam, from DJ Lobsterdust. At this link you can download the tune, which has the music from the MJ/Paul McCartney song Say Say Say and adds in a bunch of vocals from artists old and new. It's very groovy.

It's Not The Pyts

With this post I will mention a DJ I stumbled upon while looking at BeeMP3 for a particular song on there-oh what a night-and I found a mashup from a DJ I had not heard of before. I went over to his page and I'll present to you Mr. Pytski, from The Netherlands, or Holland if you will.

Looking at his Mix Downloads page you'll see that he has a large list of mashups he created. Clicking on each link offers up some details on the song (always a nice touch), a download link and the ability to stream the song before downloading it. I'm sure you'll find something that you'll like. I like Walk This Way, Don't Bring Me Down and I'm So Excited In Da Club, in particular.

I'll be back Friday the 3rd with a mashup that I hope will be related to the big day on the 4th.

Check Back Tomorrow Night

The latest thing to impede my doing this on time is that on a whim I decided to head on down to the Miami area on Friday, mainly due to boredom and me needing to do something out of the norm. I got back Saturday night, only to go to a wrestling show, so on Sunday and Monday I had to write about both experiences for my other pages, and then today I was occupied with something else, but I got some unexpected good news so in a bit I'll be going out on the town... point is, I'll be back tomorrow night to do this, I promise.

Electric

Today I decided to reference something I mentioned awhile back, but this time add a little more to it; hey, I’m stumped as to what else to talk about, so that’s what I’m going to do. I spent some days thinking about what song I should pick. I finally went with one that I can still listen to today and never get tired of.

I first talked about it in this post from the last day of 2008, which was really a few links that brought you a cornucopia of the best mashups from last year. The one I’m going to talk about is number 2 on this list. It’s a combo of Justice’s remix of MGMT’s Electric Feel and Notorious B.I.G.’s Nasty Boy. As for each group, Justice is a group that I should go ga-ga over but they’re hit and miss with me. Some of their stuff is great but sometimes I’m “meh” to it. MGMT, though, is a band that I think is crap all the time, and Justice’s remix of that tune improves it 1000 fold. Mixing it with the vocals from Biggie is pretty sweet and while I’m mainly familiar with this one song when it comes to the oeuvre of Brooklyn's ddpesh, that tune is a great one to remember from him. I also think that there need to be more blending of rap and electro.

What Will Happen To Me Next?

Unfortunately, I had yet more stuff that I had to deal with which delayed me posting anything here, including some idiot impersonating me on a bad local messageboard! I had to write and mention it on my pages, first off, then register for that site to prove that the impostor was indeed that... so yeah it's been a hassle.

So, I'll keep it simple here and tell y'all about a site I found just recently which is a nice place for the newest mashups, especially if they're from the Netherlands. Yes, a Dutch blog about mashups! It's Mashup Facts. While part of it is in Dutch so thus most of you can't read it, it is still easy enough to find songs, whom they're by, and download them. So, enjoy.

Social Networking

Just to let you know, for purposes of MySpace/Facebook blogs and Livejournal wrestling posts (although probably once in awhile I'll mention the music pages) go to twitter.com/blairpac to check out my thoughts; I'm still not a big fan of that site and a lot of it is BS (especially with the "celebrity tweets", most of whom are by their handlers rather than the celebrity themselves) but I'll still try it out, if only for a little bit.

Still, I'll be back this weekend; I've just been way too tied up as of late to concentrate on this. Sorry. But, I will post a new song that I'll talk about this weekend.

You Can Never Win

This weekend, I'll bring up another old mashup from a few years ago. It was part of a mix that I plugged last year but I figured it deserved another mention, this time separately. Once again it can be found at Good Blimey's Mashup Page; it's in Volume 6.

It's from Groovepod Panikk, a trio of DJ's/musicians who I don't believe are around anymore, which is unfortunate as from what little I heard of them, they're pretty cool. That's about all the info I have on them, alas. The song is Never Win The Wall, which is a combo of Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) by Pink Floyd and Never Win, by Fischerspooner. That was the first time I heard that electronic group; overall I don't think that their whole schtick is really for me, but Never Win is a quality song and it works really well with Pink Floyd's biggest hit on the charts. Like I said, you can find it in Volume 6 of the link I provided, and I'll be back next weekend with another mashup to talk about.

A Day Late, 50 Cent Short

I decided to wait and do this now instead of last night, as among other things, I realized that I needed to leave the house now instead of later to do my activities downtown. I’ll talk about it on my other music page in a few days.

As for this update, I’ll bring up some links I’ve plugged many times before, but I’m bringing them up again for good reason. There’s the Bootie Blog, and recently posted there is not only the past two months of their favorite mashups of the month, there is also a recap of their journey to Australia to do some shows. That’s another country I’d like to visit one of these days. By the way, I recommend DJ Schmolli's song, as he somehow made a combo of Blue Monday and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida work.

As for the song I’m going to point out, once again it’s from Good Blimey, but hey, look at all the hundreds of tunes they have up on there; I could use them as a source until I’m in the cemetery if I wanted to. Anyway, the tune can be listened to and downloaded in Volume 6. It is from Agent Lovelette, a person who used to do mashups but doesn’t do it anymore. This is pretty old, from a few years ago in fact. It’s called Lil Bit Damaged, as it combines Just a Lil Bit from 50 Cent and Damaged Goods, from Gang of Four, only the unique thing was done of the backing track (Damaged Goods) being played using an old Nintendo! No kidding. Then again, there’s D Pad Hero, which does the same thing, and is one amazing feat that guy pulled off, by the way. As for this mashup, it's good stuff and you won't look at the original "Fiddy" song the same ever again.

Happy Cinco de Mayo

Yes, I've finally returned. I apologize for all the non-posts and breaks during the past 6 months or so, but it was due to my zany schedule. But, things should be more normal now.

Today is Cinco de Mayo, but I wasn't able to find any relevant songs that tied in to that. So, I'll just repost something that at the time had a working link but not any longer.

The song I talked about originally can be looked at here. They re-did their page and now you can't find it there. So, you'll have to look here to get the tune, along with quite a few other older mashups from a few years ago (that song in question is near the bottom). Enjoy. It's a great song for a night like tonight, where you may want to go out and enjoy it being an unofficial national Mexican holiday, no matter your race, creed or color. But, don't drive drunk, whatever you do.

A Brief Sabbatical

Unfortunately, the excu.. er I mean reason why this is going up at this time is because of Internet problems. Yes, I just had them this past November and I thought I'd be done with them for months, but I was mistaken. But, it's working fine now. Problem is, for the rest of the month I will just not have the time to do this, so the next time I'll post a song here will be on Monday evening, May 4th. By then things will calm down for me and be much less hectic, I promise.

Too Hot To Give It Up

Once again I'll tie something from my other music page over to here. If you look there now you'll see a post concerning Marvin Gaye; a big deal has been made over the anniversaries of both his death and his birth being earlier this month. I uploaded the song Got To Give It Up and figured it would be most logical to point out a mashup involving that tune here.

Once again I'll mention DJ Riko, who I mentioned last year for his Superchunk mix. If you look here, you can scroll down and find the mashup he did involving Gaye's song where you hear his vocal over the music of a song by UFO, which is a band that you never hear on the radio but from the songs I've heard from them, they're cool with me. It's more rocking than the original Gaye tune, but it doesn't make it any worse. In fact, it goes together very well.

Catching Up Is Hard To Do

I'll direct you here for an explanation as to where I've been the past few days. Basically, I've felt too crappy to do this until just now. Damn McDonalds food!

Anyway, I'll just quickly mention a link that I've brought up before, but in case you haven't bookmarked it yet or whatever, Popbytes's mashup of the week page-located here-is a nice source for quality songs on a weekly basis. I especially enjoy the latest song posted on there, a rather unique take on Kung Fu Fighting.
