Iron Maiden vs. India?

On this night, I will spotlight a mashup that combines two songs and two genres that you'd never think could be combined… heavy metal and Bollywood! That's the beauty of mashups, you know.

This tune is from Wax Audio, a mashup artist from Australia who has put together some great tunes, from the more obvious combining of songs (his combining of Another Brick in the Wall and Staying Alive is better than you may think) to the less obvious (Metallica and Panjabi MC?)

Here is a song in the less obvious category. The tune, which can be found here, is known as Maiden Goes to Bollywood: Sexy Maiden on the Floor, as it combines Iron Maiden's Flight of Icarus and Sunidhi Chauhan's Crazy Kiya Re. Talk about "thinking out of the box" in combining those two particular tracks together. But, it works... really well. No matter what you think of Wax Audio's political views*, he's a very talented mashup artist who you hope continues to pursue this field.

He's not a fan of the George W. Bush regime, let me put it that way. I'm not one to get political here, but if nothing else, you may get a cheap laugh out of George W. allegedly looking like a chimp, or Dick Cheney looking like The Penguin from the 60's version of Batman.

Anyhow, I'll be busy for the next week so the next mashup I spotlight will be a week from tonight.

Whoops

In my last blog I neglected to mention when my next upload would be. Expect it to be up tomorrow night.

Ah Ah Ah Ah, What A Great Song

On my other blog, I just posted a disco song from the late 70's known as Let's All Chant, by the Michael Zager Band. You can get the info on that tune there.

This mashup, from DJ Lobsterdust (yep, the same guy who I mentioned a few weeks ago for his mashup involving Ludacris and those 80's hair metal songs) combines Let's All Chant with two songs from the Beastie Boys, Super Disco Breakin (but of course) and Shake Your Rump. It's awesome. Combining the song from the Beastie's with a disco tune is natural, and a great tune was picked for that task.

The track can be found on the main page when you scroll down to August 15th.

Another Best of 2007 Link

Unfortunately I'm really pressed for time tonight so this will be super-short and I will instead provide a link to another compilation of the best mashups of 2007. This link is from a guy named Simon Iddol. It's mainly songs I haven't linked to before and it's a nice enough collection. Enjoy. I'll be back Friday night, where I will spotlight one single mashup.

The Important Advice You Learn From A Woman

Here is the spotlighting of a song that isn't a combination of a rock/pop song from the past with a current rap tune (although expect many of those in the future of this blog!) but rather something else entirely. Today's tune is from British mashup artists Celebrity Murder Party.

This tune is known as We Want Robot Titties-quite the unique title-and combines Titties from The Trucks, We Want The Funk from George Clinton's Parliament, Kraftwerk's Robots, and Vampire Sound Inc.'s The Lions and the Cucumber, an ultra-obscure band that isn't even on Wiki and I only know that they had that song in Jackie Brown, a movie that I don't think is worth seeing... but let's not get off-track here. The resultant song is an awesome electro tune that you'll want to play over and over... or at least that's what I did as soon as I first heard it. Note that the main lyric you get from the Trucks song is the female lead singer saying that just because a guy "twisted (my) titties" and stuck his tongue down her throat that it doesn't mean they can have sexual intercourse... no, really. What a message!

You can download the song at this page.

I'll be back Sunday night with me spotlighting my next song.

Bootie, Rocking Everywhere

In an earlier post I mentioned the Best of Bootie 2005 and Best of Bootie 2006 free comp discs put together and mixed by DJ's Adrian & The Mysterious D. You need to download both of those albums (and on the 2006 page you should also download the extra tracks they have) as I don't need to spotlight those songs in future posts when they're easily found on those pages. I mean, many of those tunes are must-haves in this genre, IMO. Hell, last night I went back to Mako's (I know, I know) and they played a song you can find on the 2006 page, which is Easy Maneater from Victor Menegaux. That was a pleasant surprise.

A few days ago, the Best of Bootie 2007 was released online, which I downloaded as soon as I was able to. I haven't decided yet on how it ranks compared to 2006 and 2005, but again this is an album that you need to download (along with the extra tracks). Tracks 2, 3, 8, 18, and 19 are especially good, IMO.

I'll be back Wednesday night with a single song that will be spotlighted.

Don't Push Me Cause I'm Close To The Edge

Here is a song where an 80's rap tune is combined with a song from the soundtrack of a famous 80's film; certainly an odd combo, but that's the beauty of mashups.

The song is by Frenchman Doppelbanger and can be found on his download page. It is known as Flash Runner, as it combines the end theme to the film Blade Runner, by the underrated composer Vangelis, and the classic old-school rap song The Message, by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. To clarify, it uses the music from the Vangelis tune and the vocals from the Flash song.

I mainly picked this particular song as Sunday night I was able to see "The Final Cut" of Blade Runner, as featured on the new DVD release of the movie. It has been playing in various theatres across the country, and it finally came to the small arty theatre in the Orlando area known as the Enzian. I won't get into a full review, but The Final Cut is pretty awesome, and I am very happy I got to see it on the big screen.

Anyway, I'll be back Sunday afternoon (I'll be more punctual; my schedule was all out of whack today) with another tune.

Happy 2008, Everyone

Unfortunately I was not able to post earlier due to the Internet at my house being down for 6 (!) hours. Considering that, I'll do what I wanted to do earlier tonight on Wednesday, and wish you all a Happy New Year.
