A rather odd "real life" moment happened just earlier today, when I was in a local Best Buy when I saw none other than retired basketball (and current assistant coach for the Orlando Magic) Patrick Ewing walk into the store and start looking at DVD's! I kid you not. I didn't go up to him and get a picture or an autograph, but it still makes for an interesting story to tell, as this is the first time I've ever encountered a random celebrity doing a regular mundane thing such as purchasing DVD's.
Today I will spotlight a mashup DJ who apparently isn't in this business anymore-given that his website hasn't been updated in more than a year and I haven't heard anything new from him in that time-but he was great while he was around.
I am refering to DJ John, a guy who put together multiple tunes into a cohesive whole. Arguably his best song (and undeniably his most popular tune) was Victim of Da Funk, which mainly combined Daft Punk's Da Funk and the Eagles' Victim of Love, but also has bits and pieces of other songs. It can be found easily on the mashups page on his website; all the songs there are still available for download. This ranks very high on the short list of the best mashups I've ever heard. Many of the other songs there are also worth a download. It's a shame he doesn't make mashups anymore, but those tunes will be around forever.
Check back here Friday night, where I will spotlight the next mashup.
